For Your Soul
Joy is an act of resistance ~ Toi Derricotte
Resolved, to create joy in the face of oppression.
Resolved, to nurture hope in the day of disaster.
Resolved, to offer compassion on the midst of grief.
Resolved, to keep faithfully living the truth of justice and mercy.
For Your Eyes
I read Moon of the Turning Leaves last month, and it is just as good as the first book, Moon of the Crusted Snow—an excellent winter read by Waubgeshig Rice.
For Your Ears
I am taking time to listen to my favorite Christmas albums during the 12 days of Christmas. This one by Enya always feels right for New Years aka the 8th day of Christmas.
For Your Taste Buds
Soup is the order of the day, particularly when we spend so much time running around to girls’ basketball games. Ramen is easy, and we often top it with an egg for protein.
For Your Nose
What is everyone’s preferred conifer scent? Personally, I love white fir.
When dried pine needles are on the ground, baking in the hot summer sun, they bring up a specific set of memories for me, mostly involving the giant ponderosa pines of California.
For Your Body
Stretching is an interesting animal instinct. After spending long periods in one position, we move our bodies in a way that loosens stiffness and gets blood flowing. It is one of the best ways to maintain good health in the long term. So, I hope you stretch your limbs and joints throughout the cozy days under blankets.
Happy New Year to you and yours. May 2025 be a great 12 months for us all.
I'm hoping to read Moon of the Crusted Snow this winter!
