It's been a full summer, including a broken A/C system in the car during the hottest month ever recorded on Earth. As such we spent a lot of time indoors, saving our driving around for the cooler mornings. Just yesterday I managed to pull/tear/injure a ligament in my knee (official medical diagonisis was: acute internal derangement of the right knee), which put a bit of a kabosh on some end of summer travel for this week. Hopefully healing will be quick, and I am getting a bit more mileage out of the crutches I had from my broken ankle three years ago.
How did I injure myself this time? I tripped on some stairs, missing the three steps entirely in favor of landing HARD on the cement sidewalk. Minimal scrapes on the left knee and my hands, and a spilled tumbler of coffee were the only other damages. Most of my injuries are the result of my apparent ina
blity to navigate normal walking.
Anyway, I figured I could share some highlights from the summer and let my life get back on track before school starts in a couple of weeks.

For the Ears
Audiobooks on Spotify has been a great way to bypass the waitlist on my library app. Sometimes. Until I run out of listening hours. Here are some of the books I enjoyed over the last few months.
For the Eyes
My Lady Jane on Amazon Prime was a delightful retelling of history with a dash of fantasy and a whole lot of fun.
The Promised Land gives a humanizing quality to Moses, Miriam and other characters from the book of Exodus. I hope the series continues.
Olympic content was great and I am looking forward to the Paralympics. Maybe I will be inspired in my own healing.
For the Taste Buds
ICE sugar free sparkling water with caffeine has been my substitute for Dr. Pepper this summer.
The garden is yielding plenty of zuchinni, basil, and onions right now. There is some promising tomatoes, the occasional strawberry and raspberry, and “fingers crossed” watermelon. Between the short growing season, a cold May/June and extremely hot July, gardening in Montana is not for the faint of heart.
May this week bring gentleness to your senses and your soul.
So sorry to hear about your knee, Caitlin -- sending you prayers for speedy healing.
Ligaments are a female dog.. I had a torn ligament for three years and kept getting worse until I had to do surgery to fix it.. 🥲 I hope your tear isn’t that bad!
